Just how good or bad are the Beslar or Beseler lenses/ I understand that one of these is a cheaper line but which one? I am looking to purchase a wide angle,38-40mm enlarger lens. Would the Beseler/Beslar ?? be a good choice?

Melvin, I cannot answer your question directly. However, it is my feeling that with lenses you generally get what you pay for. So, which one is the more expensive one? That is probably the better one.

In Ctein's book Post Exposure, he says all wide angle enlarging lenses have too much light fall-off for serious work. He also shows the Beseler Color Pro 50mm lens would be a very good choice. (Beslar is the cheaper line.)
