Goat breeding

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I want to have my kids as early as possible , January is fine for me. Here's the deal, I have 3 nubian boer cross does that had their first kids late this year, {last of June} I'll wean their kids in September. Do you think they will cycle before the kids are weaned or would that be kids born to close together . Thanks in advance Sherry

I believe their are some people that will breed to kid every 8 months, more with the meat goats and sheep. So that would mean kidding in February and breeding in Sept. As long as they are in good health I see no problem with it.

Not a problem at all. Meat animals are only expected to be bred, kid, and nurse their kids for 3 months tops. That isn't alot of stress. Now if on top of this you were milking her for 10 months, like dairy stock is done, than no rebredding isn't a good idea. Keep them in really good flesh, worm before the buck goes in, and you shouldn't have any problems. Vicki
