Anybody know anything about towers?

My son told me of a friend of his who let Horizon put up a signal tower on his property. They pay him $600/month for the use of a 100' x 100' piece of land. They put in a gravel driveway also. He dictated where he wanted it to go - he could have got more money for a different site. The tower had to be 200 ft. tall because he made them put it in a low area. Does anyone know anything about this kind of arrangement? What would the environmental issues be, if any?

Dianne, I don't know anything about these towers. ( I'll go buy some land to put one on tho!, for 600 dollors a month, I could buy some land!}. But I had to say Hi, to you, miss you ,glad to see you!. Hope they don't come up with any environmental issues! It almost sounds too good to be true tho. doesn't it! Missed ya, so glad to see ya! grin TRen

I know of a gentleman that has leased land for five of them and I don't think he works anymore.

I don't recognize the name Horizon. Are these cell phone towers? Some other kind of towers?

I've heard of farmers renting out small parts of their land for wind generator towers and getting decent rent for a small area of land, but I don't know about $600 a month.

I've read some bad things about the electric fields they put off. There are a couple threads over at Countryside. I was interested too, I am on a very high hill up here. You can just put "cell towers" in the search engine, I did, and lots come up.

Thanks guys for your input. Cindy - do you remember what the threads in CS were? I couldn't find them. But I did do a search and do not like, even a little bit, what I read. Well, maybe a little bit - the $ part! But even like how these towers are impacting bird migration ... probably not for me.
