tree roots in septic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Back again, Since we are remodeling we havent been able to mow the lawn (building materials stacked everywhere) we have discovered our neighbors silver maple shoots coming up in our drain field little shoots by the hundreds, I cant imagine what their root system must look like. How do I get rid of them before they over run our drain field. thanks Ronda

Since it is a maple, these are not shoots but rather seedlings. Just keep them mowed down and they will die.

Kens right,, they are from seeds, so dont woory about them at this point,, just mow,, or,, transplant them,, some might make it

If you wait until they're dormant, most will almost certainly survive transplantation. They are beautiful trees, although they are supposed to be brittle, so don't plant them too close to your house.

The right trees in or adjoining a drain area can even be a good thing. Suck moisture out of the soil and transpire it at an enormous rate. Provided the roots don't crawl back into and block your drain pipes.
