Formula for Perfection XR-1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Hello, I've been looking for the formula for Perfection XR-1 film developer for quite a while. It contains phenidone, hydroquinone and metol, but I don't know the exact amounts or if it has any other chemicals. Can anyone help. Thank You.

J:

I don't have the exact formula for XR-1, but would suspect it is quite similar to one of the Crawley FX formulas. There were several of these that contained all 3 of these developing agents. Try taking a look in Anchell-Troop book, "The Film Developing Cookbook."

About a year ago, I tried very hard to track down Bill Anneman, who ran Perfection as a cottage industry on and off through the 70's and 80's, but had no luck. That was the one developer that made Tech Pan a usable option for me (EI 80 with very smooth scale), and I gave up on it after XR-1 was no longer available. IMHO, Delta 100 in XTOL is comparable in quality, so it doesn't bother me much anymore. Good luck!

Thank you Ken and Tim for your responses. I guess when I use my final four packs I'll search for something new. J. Salta
