I think congratulations are in order for Lance Armstrong on winning his 3rd Tour de'France. To do what he has done with what he has had to go thru. That has to be one of the roughest sports around as for human conditioning.

Bobco, Lance is the American who just won the big bike race (no, not mororcycles) for the third time over in France.

What did he do that was so outstanding? He was born an Armstrong - no one could aspire to higher than that.

He was also a teenage bicycling star living up to his youthful promise in his twenties, then in 1996:

"What Lance didn't know was that spreading like wildfire throughout his body was choriocarcinoma, an especially aggressive form of testicular cancer. This was no microscopic tumor caught in the early stages. His cancer had established itself in his abdomen, his lungs and even his brain. There were eleven masses in his lungs alone, some the size of golf balls. His brain was invaded by two malignancies. Best estimate of survival? Only 50/50."

Well, he fought back from that. He has since won three Tours de France - the toughest and most hotly-contested cycling race in the world. He picked up an Olympic bronze medal in Sydney, but also captained the US cycling team. He's a father. He's established a foundation to research testicular cancer. He gives heaps of time to cancer victim support.

But on top of all that, he's an Armstrong.

Hi TomK - I too congratulate Lance. I enjoyed reading Lance's book "It's Not About the Bike", about his battle with cancer and his comeback as a professional cyclist to win the Tour De France. I used to be an amateur bike racer, but had to give it up once I became a homesteader - just couldn't muster the energy for those 100 mile training rides after doing all the chores. Perhaps upon retirement Lance should become a homesteader - the world's second most exhausting job after professional cycling. (Don, I liked your response!)
