Glass top canning jars

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Do any of you still use the older glass top jars? I've had a lot of them given to me, and I've read up on how to use them, but I wonder about the availability of the rubber rings. WalMart does not have them, so I'm going to try my local small hardware store next. Anything you want to tell me about them? I'd hate to end up using them to store drygoods.

Cathy, I have some of those jars and rubbers. I had a whole passel of those jars when I moved here and was worried about ffinding the rubbers et al and needed some cash so I sold hundreds to antique stores! Not the brightest move in manny regards, but I did it. Let me look through some stuff, I believe if you contact the manufacturer you can buy them in bulk.

Cathy,

I know you can order the rings through Lehmans catalog.

I have a dozen of those jars and the wife found some rubber rings for them. I wish I had more. I use them to store my raw honey that I harvest from my own hives. The honey crystallizes and the tops of the jars get messy, but these have no rings to get gummed up so they are always easy to open.

I have a feeling that if you would go to your local farmer's co-op feed store you might could get some ordered through some of their suppliers' catalogues. Our local co-op carries them on the shelves, I think.

USE ANY SERCH ENGINE FOR RUBBER RINGS. THERE ARE SEVERAL GOOD SITES. I ORDER FROM KITCHEN KRAFT.
