A warm loaf of fresh bread and a french butter keeper. When are you coming to pick them up? (Western Washington)

-- Laura Jensen (lrjensen@nwlink.com), August 04, 2001.

I went to the dealer for a Rolls Royce but they were out. So I thought maybe a nice Cadillac, but alas they too were empty. so all I could come up with was a shiny new Lincoln. Where do you want it sent to?

Happy Birthday

Bobco, a French butter keeper is a ceramic contraption for keeping butter fresher at room temperature. It looks kind of like a small cup stuck to a saucer. You fill the cup up with butter. Then you turn it upside down into a larger cup partially filled with fresh water.

The water seals the butter away from flies, dust, and other nastiness, and keeps it fresh for longer than just putting it on a plate on the counter. Since it's at room temperature, the butter stays spreadably soft. When you want some butter, you just turn the butter cup and saucer right-side-up again. It looks so nice, you can even bring it right to the table like this. I don't think it would work well if the house gets over, say, 85 degrees, but it doesn't get that hot where I live. If it did, I'd probably put the butter keeper in the basement or some other coolish place.

Happy belated Birthday Kenneth. Been out of town for the past five days, but read this this morning. Can't afford you a present right now; (presently, even my rainbows are shown in black and white), so you will have to settle for wishing you a good one.
