black prisoners of alcatrez at the time of the escape

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

With reference to the film, Escape From Alcatrez [starring Clint Eastwood] - does anyone know if there really are any surviving escapees and whether any of them were ever caught - has anyone ever written memoirs about them?

Former Alcatraz resident Jolene Babyak has just written a book about the famous 1962 escape attempt that provides a wealth of information on the prison and convicts, including the black prisoners and the budding Muslim movement. The book's titled "Breaking the Rock" and is available from Ariel Vamp Press.
