Health Insurance

Does anyone have any suggestions for good, not to expensive health insurance carriers? We are just two people, married, fairly healthy. Our current coverage is now costing us $456 a month. It's getting too costly. Thanks!

You didn't mention your age but if you qualify you might take a look at AARP.

If you are self-employed look at the National Assoc. of Self-Employed at NASE.org. Ask for information and a local person will call you and set up a meeting. This insurance is like a buffet, you pick and choose what you want. I just switched to it. You can have bare bones catastrophic coverage or very complete wellness, dental, etc. Also try your college alumni assoc., if either of you went to college.

The problem with getting good affordable health insurance is to find a company that works with individuals out side of the group. I get free health insurance through my job, (because of the group) however, its hard to get a good rate for spouse, I was apying in NC for insurance for my husband 280.00 a month, OUCH, then in VA it was about 200.00, not too much saving. good luck.

There are insurance policies that have a deductable of say a $1000 or even higher or more. But these are very reasonable and would cover any major accident or illnesses. Everyday medical bills wouldn't be covered and you would always be able to make arrangements to pay the deductable to the hospital or doctor if need be. I would call an insurance company and ask them about this type of policy. It just might help you out until you could or might not want a "regular" insurance.

We have BC/BS with a $5000 deductible. It is very reasonable. I can't remember their web address, but I'm sure it would come up on your search engine. Their site actually lets you fill out the form with your choices and info and it'll give you a quote right then. You might want to check it out.

We have BC/BS as well. Deductible is $2500 and the premium is $250 a month. Not too bad for a family of 8. It's basically hospitalization/catastrophic coverage and we pay for all the piddly stuff.

I got the best rate through the farm bureau (wasn't already a member-- membership only 10$ a year. Good rates for all insurance needs. Try other organizations you belong to (nursing associations, teachers, etc..)

I live in Washington State and we have Washington Basic Health. It is very good coverage and the cost is based on your income. Maybe your state has a simular program. Also check with clinics and see what insurances they accept and then check into the different ones. Good luck! Susan
