Arch Bishop

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Recently a Catholic Arch Bishop married a woman, but after an audience with the Pope renounced the marriage and returned to the priesthood. What is your take on: celibacy? Return to celibacy if the marriage was consumated?; etc.?

Blessings,

Pastor Paris

I beleive the Catholic policy of celabacy for servants of the church (both nuns and preist have cost it the talents of people who had to make the choice of sevice to God and having a family. I know of nothing sciptural to say that celebacy is necessary. I know that the reasoning is that the servant of God is "married to the Church" and therefore will be better able to devote their time to the needs of the church and flock but I am not sure this is the case.
