another killer peice of management from YBR

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

for chisakes why does bob have to use the media to air his greivances with players?

ok so solano wants to play for peru until they're out of the wc. either sell him or shut up about it.

whats the big deal anyway? he misses 5 or 6 games a season playing in internationals,so what, shearer played in euro 2000 with the 3 lions embalazoned proudly on his chest and with both kness juiced up with cortisone, he missed the entire season and jeopardized his entire career, now thats what i call selfish and irresponsible.

I digress, bobby needs to make his mind up about solano, slagging him in the press is about as useful as the last time he pulled this stunt... i.e. take an insecure french kid, humiliate him in a live press conference, send him home for the weekend and then complain when he doesn't show up for work the following week.

brilliant!

I have to say I agree that Bobby going to the press with this is diabolical and may well cost us a very good player.

Although, in fairness to YBR, it's less the fact that Nobby is playing for Peru than the fact that he negotiated a new contract on the basis that he wouldn't be playing for Peru... This should have been kept in-house, though: no plaudits to YBR for gobbing off about it.

I think they are both vying for leverage of some sort, Nobby I think wants away to spain and ybr needs for the people of newcastle to understand the whole thing from the clubs point of view. I'll give nobby two weeks tops then it's off to spain.

Just found out that a mate of mine lives next door to a mr bassedas in the little benton farm area. So if any of you lads and lasses get yoursells into the lochside don't be surprised to find one very drunk bassedas in there playin darts with the lads.

Aye, that would be Frank Bassedas. Used to live in Cowpen but moved nearer Newcastle a while ago. I think his ma still lives at Bebside. ;-)

if nobby wanted to leave why did he sign a new contract?

sans contract, he could walk out the door for virtually nothing.

i think nobby is a patriotic person desperate to help his team get to the wc finals, bob should just shut up and turn a blind eye since peru will soon be out anyway.

slagging nobby in the press is fricking idiotic - again

It is difficult to escpae syme's conclusion that there are hidden agendas being publicly played out in the press here. However, I have to agree with besty (first time?) that BR's man management ability is being called into serious question in this sorry episode. I've already made the same point in another thread, that he should shut up and either forget the whole thing or put him on the transfer list.

My suspcicion is that there are indeed hidden agendas being played out here. Solano can now blame BR's unreasonableness for creating a situation where unfortunately he had no choice but to move on (to Spain, of course); while Bobby can say to the fans that he tried everything he possibly could to keep Nobby here, but that ultimately it proved impossible.

BTW - there are reports today that Deportivo La Corunna are monitoring the Solano situation intently, and are preparing to launch a bid for him! Interesting eh?

...then maybe we should send them several hundred videos of Sunday's Mackem match, esp. the last 10-15 mins?

Always assuming WE want to keep him?

Questionio: A player as good a passer and crosser of the ball as Beckham getting sold for peanuts - 7feckin mill, whats that aboot then?

And if he and other parties are using the media to push a move then for gods sake why not use it as a haggling tool??? Because if he played for Arsenal my theory is: he would be worth at least 15mill going by the screws..............

So why is his price shrinking????????? (are we shit hagglers???) The guys a gem and who when he plays puts the chances on a plate. "He's our most creative player." You Get rid of creativity and flair you'll end up with players who panic, players who cant keep the ball never mind make important goals- HOLY SHIT, playerslike the makems..........

Elementory is tyhe fact that Mr Solano is worth at least 15 goals a season, and can you imagine his effectiveness with a proven inform finisher???????

So where is the destructive force coming from, just who are the forces trying to break up wor Newcastle UNITED??????

And dont kid yourself thinking that players like Trevor Sinclair are in his league - simply they are not. Essex Trev though competent, will never make 15 chances a year like Nobby. He'll play 30 games create 5 score a few, where as Nobby will play 25 score 5 create 10 and yet crazy as this seems no doubt West ham would expect about 7million?????????

My opinion Nobby is seriously undervalued it seems. Any one agree?

Not wanting to put a dampner on his goal-scoring credentials but he has scored 15 league goals in his whole three years with us, never mind in a season !!!

Along with the rumoured 10 a season we get from Gary Speed we'd barely need any from our forwards !

He's worth more than £7mm T Smith, and if he were to leave I couldn't see FS selling him for less than £10-12mm, possibly more. I haven't seen it, but presumably some low-life footy web-site has mentioned £7mm as the fee Deportivo are prepared to shell out for him.

We've been debating why BR keeps slagging him off in the media. What BR omits to mention in all this talk about Nobby's new contract, is that the fact that we've got him to sign a four year contract will have increased his market value rather than diminished it. So, if the relationship between Nobs and Bobby does deteriorate to the point where he lists him - which I doubt - then my guess is the Club would be looking for perhaps £15mm for him.

7 mill + helder abosolutly... helder does play for deporto la corona

-- Anonymous, August 30, 2001

10mil + Helder and you've got a deal!

-- Anonymous, August 30, 2001

Yeah, £10m & Helder and I'd snap their hands off.

-- Anonymous, August 30, 2001

After Sunday i say that the keep Solano campaign starts here!

-- Anonymous, August 30, 2001

Auld Helder is goin no where, so SK you're not alone in keep nobbs. Mind you if he keeps leavin his shooting boots on the plane, we might see the 'Sparrowhawk' back on the wing (bet yer Sparrowhawk was made up by his mates at a party 'cos he drinks like a small bird....);-)

-- Anonymous, August 31, 2001

Is that why they call you 'Big Bird'?

-- Anonymous, August 31, 2001

Bob is taking a public stand because (as has been said countless times) the fans want to/need to know major events that effect the team. And this is. If anyone can tell me a more creative player in our team over the last 3 years than Nobbs then i'd like to see them!

Imagine the outcry if we all thought Bob was happy to pay Nobbs 30k a week for 15 games a year?

Not an ideal situation, but as Bob says, the fans have to know...
