At this time I am taking a college course in psychology and having a hard time finding out what the definition was back then and how its changed over time to what it means today. Also how Philosophy and Physiology have influenced Psychology? I would appreciate this. Gryzelda

There have been many definitions of psychology over the centuries. One of the most famous is William James' "the study of mental life." A good book about the relative influences of philosophy and physiologiy on psychology is John M. O'Donnell's _The Origins of Behaviorism: Americna Psychology, 1870-1920_ (NYU, 1985).
