Today, September 1, the Catholic Church honors, in a special way, the following friends of God, saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Beatrice da Silva (Portuguese, nun, foundress of Congregation of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, d. 1490 [canonized 1976])
St. Joshua and St. Gideon (Israelites, Old Testament patriarch and judge, 12th and 11th century B.C.)
St. Giles of Athens (Greek, hermit, abbot in France, c. 724)
St. Giles of Castaneda (Spanish, Benedictine abbot, c, 1203)
Bl. Jane Soderini (Italian, Servite tertiary, d. 1367)
Bl. Juliana of Collalto (Italian, Benedictine abbess, d. 1262)
Bl. Michael Ghebre (Ethiopian, Vincentian priest, martyred by abuse in prison in 1855)
