"twins"- nature vs nurture experiment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

What was this experiment about, who was involved. 2 psychologist had sort of a bet (using twins) to see if the environment that one lives in effects their behavior or if heredity has something to do with it... or something like that.

I don't know of any such bet, but Cyril Burt published the most famous twins studies on the relative impact of heredity and environment on IQ. It was later shown by Leon Kamin that Burt seemed to have fudged some of his data. Burt supporters (e.g., Arthur Jensen) believe that Burt's "findings" have been borne out by later reserch anyway. Burt's detractors take his apparent fraud to be evidence of the backruptcy of his approach.
