Response to Tracing the growth of Psychology

Hi Anjali, the short quick answer to your question is No. However, how different can New Jersey be than the rest of the U.S.? So, expect it to grow from two main directions. For the clinical approach, I think it will begin with schools and children around 1910 and with academic/scientific approach it will begin in the colleges and universities. So you might look into the history of special education in New Jersey schools. Then you could look at the history of psychology at either Princeton or Rutgers. There is a third approach, mental retardation, and if you are interested in that subject, you could look at Vineland (I think it is Vineland in New Jersey). I think there will also be a state agency, something with a title like Health, Education, & Welfare or Public Health, and the history of this agency will no doubt have associations with psychology. You might take up some of these suggestions with your local reference librarian and see where it goes from there. Good luck, David
