What's your great romantic story that really wasn't?

Who's your Miguel?

Jeez. You people. Hannah posts a great story and everyone goes AWOL. Sharing is caring, y'know.

About the best I can do is the story told here. Which was more about my channeling my 14-year-old self at 21.

Well, it's hard to share when your greatest romantic story involves someone asking "Will you go out with me?" and finding out later that he meant "Will you be my girlfriend?" when I thought he meant "Would you like to go for coffee sometime?"

Oh come on, y'all. Someone else has to have a story about something that only seems romantic when you look back on it.

Cause y'all realize about a month after that wedding I went with my cousin to play basketball and Miguel ended up showing up with his sister and I practically had to go run and hide.

Okay, here's one:

I met this guy in high school who gave me my first joint. His name was Keith, and he had long black hair and a tattoo and an unexplained scar on his cheek, and I thought he was, like, super dreamy. Especially after my mother busted me getting high and forbade me to see him. One time I snuck out on a school night and we sat in my driveway and blazed one up. You could say that was the highlight of our romance.

Poor Keith. I wonder what he's doing now? Digging ditches is a likely answer.

That good enough for you, H?

In 8th grade, this bitch had a party and didn't invite me or my friend Terri, so I went to a wedding with Terri instead, and her cousin *Mark* was there. Hubba hubba. He and I hit it off, danced all night, made out behind the reception hall, and swore to keep in touch, since he lived in a different city.

A month later, after no word from Mark, Terri tells me he ran away from home, and when his folks found him, they committed him to a drug rehab center. Sigh.

Fortunately her other cousin, Rusty, moved down from Connecticut a few weeks after that, so I just hooked up with him instead.

But make no mistake: he was no boom-chica-ber-ber Mark.

Then there was the time I was 14, on a school trip to Six Flags, and I (chastely) kissed one of the park attendants just so I could have that secret to myself.

On the one hand, that was kinda cute, in retrospect; on the other, my then-girlfriend would not have been pleased, had she known.

Does, uh, going all the way with a crush and having it REALLY disappoint count?

It was spring break, he was THE coolest guy in high school, and the absolute WORST kisser/lay I ever experienced before or since. It should have been perfect! There was moonlight, a romantic beach, an unfolding of the relationship in the exact direction I wanted it to go. Then we got our pants off. Um, no.

It was so bad my crush was completely dissolved. I had been pining SO HARD for him to ask me out before, and after, I could barely look him in the face.
