Vampire Hunter D: BLOODLUST!!!!!!!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Who wants to see this animated feature that recently premiered in a film theatre in L.A. named after that great extinct race the Egyptians?! A film that Paul Gilbreath did NOT get to see...but instead ended up walking the lonely Hollywood Blvd looking for his supposed friend who did not show up. A film that stars the voice of none other than the voice of our beloved TREVOR GOODCHILD, Namely John LEE-now voice actor to the part of Meier!!!!!!!!!Wanna see it????Well you can, because I've just learned through the graces of John Lee (whom I was indelicately begging an autograph from) that it is to be coming to local theatres across the United States to US,the public! This September. We can now all see it.......Paul included. I hear its great!

One thing I did want to say about Julia Fletcher, in Vampire Hunter D, there was a line she said that was sooo reminiscent of Denise Poirier's voice I was certain the voice was Denise. Afterward I searched the credits for that part's voice actress to discover it was Julia, without the Scafandra styled voice. Evidently she is a very good voice actress, and I wondered if that was an unconscious imitation, or she was impressed with Denise's style as Aeon? Just another inexplicable and unexpected resemblence in this film to A.F.

Very funny, Barbara Clements... I did see it last year, but I'll still rush to the theatre when it comes out. Plus I have a job now, so I'm loaded. ^_^

I've now seen two other theatrical-release animes: Jinroh and Blood. Jinroh was pretty cool, a good "alternate history" anime. Blood was alright. But keep your eye out for the new American production, "Waking Life"; I've seen the preview, and trust me, it's going to kick everyone's ass...

oo00oo0o0ohhh. Starting out with my whole name and ending up with a statement like 'kicking everyone's ass'...why am I reminded of that black handprint on Aeon's

-- Barb e. (Suesuebeo9@cs.com), September 05, 2001.

Well, you have to take into account how critical I am. If it kicked my ass, then it'll probably kick anyone's...

Just so you know, it was meant to be funny... the post above talked about "Paul Gilbreath", so I thought "two can play that game". Don't mean to step on your toes Barb, and of course, I'm excited about the news; something to tide us over until Peter's ready... (but do check out Waking Life, it looks amazing)

Just so I never see my social security number up here...(haha)Hey, how'd you like Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust. Did you see the one with John Lee? I read he was chilling as Meier. Interesting side point on Art Bell's show the other night they did a show on vampires. Seems the S&M world has really blossomed with the new vampire mystique. Lots of people out there like the romance of the vampire. They even have a 'club' in NYC for 'vampires'.

-- Barb e. (Suesuebeo9@cs.com), September 06, 2001.

You'll love it. It looks fantastic, and even the dubbing is good (esp. on Meier and D). At the screening I went to, it had tough competition (Utena) but it's a great movie in it's own right. Surpasses the previous Vampire film in art, animation and storyline. Look out for some Demiurge-esque effects with one character...

Hey, found the website for this movie. It's http://www.vampirehunterdbloodlust.com - What BEAUTIFUL art, I mean like oooooooh. Now I wish I worked for Madhouse....Incidently they are giving away 2 animated original cels at the LA Sci Fi and Comic Book convention, (wonder if Peter will be at THAT one) on Sept 23rd, at the Shrine Auditorium in Las Angeles. Autographed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Yutaka Minowa. The site has some really nice graphics. Also I notice that Jack Fletcher is involved, playing a character named Grove. Another character, Charlotte, is Meier Link's (JOHN LEE) love interest and is played by Wendee Lee-is this John's sister that Peter Chung told us about? The site I named above has the graphics to go with the characters if you want to check it out.

I don't have a sister. I am glad that "D" is being well received. My own film, "Breathing Hard" is showing at the Ashland Film Fest in Oregon Oct 4 - 8th. Anyone nearby enough to attend? Also Canyonlands Film Fest in Moab, Utah first weekend in Nov. It's the opening night film there, Nov 1st.

Breathing Hard is a great movie! Denise Poirier (Aeon Flux) is in it guys, and I have to say what a beautiful shape she does have-just like her voice. BTW there is an actor opposite John Lee in the movie named John Hammond who is currently playing in the new Star Trek series as the doctor. Sigh. Doesn't it just kill you we don't have sound around here. (No sister? hmm...)

-- Barb e. (Suesuebeo9@cs.com), September 24, 2001.

Oops, John Billingsley is the actor and the part he played is John Hammond. He's in 'Enterprise',the new Star Trek series, as Dr. Phlox.

Guys I must be incredibly slow because for two days I have in vain tried to reach my local theatres that shows independent films only to discover that the people getting this movie into theatres (at altvampyres.net) make a simple recommendation. Send the theatre's name and phone number to them and they will do the rest-duh! So here is a copy of what they recommend and their email address. I urge all fans to do this, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. If John Lee is doing good, Aeon Flux can make somebody some money too. Hence; movie plans! (Also it would be nice for John Lee's artistic efforts to be successful, heh)

from the altvampyres.net site:

"More theaters are constantly being added! Think D might not make it to a theater near you? Then you can make a difference! Just send us either the webpage or phone number of your local theater, and we will get in contact with them! Here's where you can make a difference! Lots of theaters are unaware of the potential of this movie, but if you can prove that there's an audience in your area, then we'll do our best to get D out to you"! As pasted from http://www.altvampyres.net/vhd/vhd2.html:

"E-mail Urban Vison at: >info@urban-vision.com.< To be added to Urban Vision's Vampire Hunter D mailing list, send an e-mail to info@urban- vision.com with the subject header "Vampire Hunter D mailing list". You can also sign up at the official VHD: Bloodlust web site".

I did send off a mailing list to Scottsdale's , and I had to laugh, This is one email response I received, had to smile. "Hi Barbara:

Our deadline passed in June for submissions and our festival is next weekend. The next event does not occur until December of 2002.

How did you come to find out about the festival?

Wonder how Breathing Hard did in Utah? It was shown two nights ago. Anyone able to go?

-- Barb e. (Suesuebeo9@cs.com), November 03, 2001.

I just found out that "Breathing Hard" has just been awarded the Best Dramatic Feature Prize at the Moab Film Festival in Utah. This film has now won eight prizes in film festivals around the world. She's a winner!

Got to finally see this picture. What an artistic feast for the eyes, ears and mind. John Rafter Lee's voice was easy on the ears as Meirer Link, a misunderstood vampire, (I wouldn't last long in amongst the human population, I'd be vampire snacks for sure). He captured that 'there's more to this guy then meets the neck' feeling. The plot was super creative as well as the graphics. The vampires morphed to protect themselves into all sorts of phantasmagorical shapes. Madhouse does really great work, (as if they needed me to say that one) Like a gothic painting with characters superimposed. I did happen to notice the audience was spellbound.

I went to this again today. The interesting thing I noticed the first time, and felt the same the second time is there seems to be a lot in this movie that resembles pieces of Aeon Flux. The guy called Kyle is a definite resemblence of a Flux char from the shorts I think, and the scene where Grove is lying down in the tank is very reminiscent of the sick alien in End Sinister. Also the spaceship resembles to some degree the one in the Demiurge, the hypodermic needle resembled the one from Last Time, and there are several other places it has these resemblances. When I got to the credits the animators were all Japanese names, so I'm at a loss to say what this is all about, maybe just these artists were fans of Chung's work?

Julia Fletcher is one of the main voices in Vampire Hunter D, and I knew I read her name before! She was Scafandra's voice, and others on A.F.

I just pre-ordered Vampire Hunter D on DVD! Can't wait to get it in the mail. I didn't get the chance to see it in theatres.
