Cleaning Chambers Stoves

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Saw a post about Chambers stoves. I have one that's been used since the 1950s. I'm wondering how to clean the stove top--mine's black, not chome, made of an unfamiliar material. I'm afriad to use anything too harsh--don't want to ruin it! Thanks for your help! --Allison

Hi,

I have a chambers we inherited when we bought our new ranch. I wondered the sam ething as this stove is in excellent condition. i wa scleaning with a little amonia cleaner and Pine-Sol, so I noticed the chrome was changing and e-mailed the site i found. here is what they said: hope it helps

Thank you for you e-mail. The chrome on the Chambers can be best cleaned with oven cleaner. Be careful not to let it sit on the aluminum parts like the griddle or the deepwell cover. Oven cleaner does not like aluminum. For an excellent manual on cleaning and reviving your stove, please see #1 at this link http://www.antiquestoves.com/books,ho.htm Fall 1997 of The Old Road Home vintage appliance magazine gives the history on Chambers with little known facts and rarely seen pictures. I too have a Chambers w/black top.I use a nylon scrubbie and baking soda to clean it when it gets BAD! I am very greatful for the info from antiquestoves.com as I am in need of some things for mine. I am also looking for a pot to fit my warming well as we dont use alum.we are planning to have a stainless griddle made for it soon. Oh as for my address, don't ask. It's the only one I have,I am too busy to mess w/multiple accts. Happy Homesteading
