If you have show sheep or goats or plan on having them cross state lines, new regulations are pending to prevent spread of scrapies.

Response to New rules for sheep & goats

thanks Mary for the info...I have a couple of questions-and will pursue answers elsewhere, but thought I would try here first. :)

Interstate commerce-would that mean if one is selling animals across state lines? what id someone moves and takes their flock of sheep and herd of goats with them? Not intending to sell them?

If someone has a small farm flock for personal use (meat fiber milk) - if they want to sell extra animals for butchering-either for example those big pickups of lambs and goats just before Easter-do they have to ahve the animals checked out?

Thanks for the info!

Sarah

Mary, There is a great article in the United Caprine News that goes into all the details. It seems that show goats with their registration papers and tattoos and health papers for shows will not have any problems. I can't remember all the particulars but the September issue has all the information.
