Where to get John Lyons Videos Inexpensively? (Horses)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I've been searching the net to try to find someone selling John Lyons symposiums at a reasonable price. I have found several sites selling them but the cost runs anywhere from $135 to $280 depending on whether it's symposium I or II. Plus I live in Canada and the exchange is brutal. Anyone know where I could possibly get them cheaper? (I've tried the library but no success)

Thanks

Have you checked out ebay??

Yeah I checked. Not much cheaper for used tapes unfortunately.

Check your local saddle shop. Most of them around here will rent you the videos for a reasonable fee and some sell the older ones quite reasonably.

Hello Filipe,

Unfortunately anything with John's name on it goes for a minimum of twice its actual value. John has a marketing degree and has been very successful at marketing himself.

Perhaps You should consider what Your goals are and look for alternatives. I have been to seperate seminars by John and Richard Schrake, and studied other training methods including Pat Parelli, The Jeffery Method, etc. I've a degree in Equine Management and have trained semi-professionally.

The best advice I've to offer: learn from all the 'systems' and find what works for You! Patience, understanding horses, and seeking a real communication them will stand You better than hewing too close to any one method.

One caveat regarding John's tapes: They are advertised as though John will show the viewer how to deal with multiple situations and problems. THEY DON'T!!!! They just show John doing the same as a seminar or exhibition. The "multiple situations and problems" are questions from the audience that he answers - there's no actual instruction. Basically a marketing ploy (perhaps to try justifying the inflated price!!!)

Depending on Your goals, I'd recommend getting books and INEXPENSIVE tapes for the following: John for actually gentling to saddle, Richard for actual riding and showing with real sensitivity for a horse's thought process, Pat for building an awesome communication and relationship with Your horse. If Your interest is in a specific discipline, look for some one already successful who will have more specific knowledge. Would You be satisfied with a General Practioner, when You NEED a Orthopedic Surgeon??!? John's books are MUCH more useful than the tapes (once You've seen him work there's not much new to it)and I just prefer having the book to refer to right at the training area without having to try finding something on a video.

Please feel free to e-mail me if You have questions or need encouragement!

Randle

Have you looked in the Western Horseman? John Lyons usually runs an ad in it for his upcoming clinics and you can buy videos from that ad, too.
