Bryan, it takes a hen about 26 hours for it to lay an egg after the last one. Everyday it takes a hen about 2 hours later to lay an egg until the last evening it may skip it and lay early the next morning. It will then start the cycle all over again.

It takes at least 21 hours for a hen to pass an egg through the oviduct. Therefore it IS possible to get more than one egg a day out of a bird, but very very rare, even in breeds that are known for top production.

Somehow, I have had 15 eggs a day out of 14 hens (no, an egg hadn't been hidden in the straw, we use newspaper in our nests because they just kick the straw out.)

Hahahaaaaa maybe you should count your chickens again. Maybe a stray one had joined up with yours. My mother-in-lay says she dosn't have any chickens but gets about 6 eggs a day hahahaa. Just strays that like her shed.

Bryan, it takes 26 hours for a hen to cycle. A duck's egg cycle is 24 hours so they consistantly outlay chickens. Lay bigger eggs too. :)
