But when i put the power wire into the HDD and the other wire (that carries the info) nothing happend when i turned it on? But when i took out the info wire and left the power wire in and turned it on i could here the HDD reading. The same also happend when i put a CD-ROM in, Just power wire = cd draw opened. Power & info wires = nothing.

Please help as i really could do with it. Thank You.

Fred.

Thanks, Fred.

It is almost certain that you are putting the IDE cables in the wrong way round.

You will notice that one side of the ide ribbon has a red stripe. This needs to be connected to pin1.

It should say on the motherboard IDE connector (very small writing) which pin is 1 and which is 40. It may have a little arrow - all other cables (com, LTP) will have a red stripe facing the right way so match them.

You also need to attatch the red side to pin one on the hard disk and CD drive. This is 99% of the time towards the power connector.

Hope this helps.
