I think that abcnews.go.com has some live video going on. I just saw it and was coming here to post. OG, you're on top of things. (Just glad it wasn't the world trade center)

Except apparently it was the World Trade Center, and another plane has just crashed into it...

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

While Iwas watching on Fox, another plane deliberately flew into the side of the building. Unbelieveable.

A second plane just hit it... Seems like it is a terrorist attack...

Plane slams into World Trade Center Ambulances rush to scene, no word on casualties

MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS New York, Sept. 11 — What appears to have been an aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center early Tuesday, tearing into the skyscraper and sending smoke billowing out some 20 stories above ground. Police and ambulances were rushing to the scene.

Eyewitnesses said what looked like a plane had been swaying back and forth before it went right into the skyscraper. The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. ET. One witness described a barrage of debris raining down on the sidewalk below. Smoke erupted out of at least two sides of the building. This is a breaking story and will be updated as developments warrant.

AP saying hijacking may have been involved, no further, nothing about any passengers.

I was only asleep for a few hours!

Holy SHT!

They may be expecting more terrorist attacks across the nation. A lady in the payroll dept just told me that her brother (who is for the county emergency response team) got a page 1 minute after the first plane putting them on HIGHEST alert!

God, I hope that nothing else happens!!!!!

the entire city of New York is in smoke and dust. hard to see anything!

pentagon explosion has been said to be from a plane crashing into it.

There was a small fire on the ground floor of One Shell Square in New Orleans when I was there. It's 43 stories and houses over 8,000 workers. It took half an hour to evacuate the building, but people were moving quite slowly. . . If little sister was in the lower half or two-thirds of the building, I think she might be okay, out of and away from the building.

Am hearing that 50,000 people worked in those two towers. The reporter on Fox is speculating that casualties will be in the tens of thousands.

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

it is possible that not many were at work as yet. this was just before nine am so it's possible many were still on their way. I bet the elevators were full.

Barefoot, it isn't just the fatalities and injuries, there is also the disruption this could cause to the national economy. It was easy enough to figure out I should leave a bunch of crises hanging at work. But what about tomorrow and the next day? My sister (the financial wizard, really!) reached me at work from Vegas. She finally has a sense that maybe my y2k preps weren't such a bad idea. She's even talking about the possibility of the money market funds crashing. This could be a very long-term event, even if there are no more casualties.

agreed Brooks. I was not attempting to diminish the numbers, just pointing out that some folks who survived have been saying that the offices didn't seem to have as many people present as usual. Seems some didn't go in to work for one reason or another.

Dad is worried about the market, and the funds. I wonder if the stock exchange will open tomorrow or not. It wouldn't surprise me if they stayed closed tomorrow, and maybe till Friday.

Watch your gas prices! Get a full tank now. I hope everyone has their water filters working, and much stored water on hand.

y2k preps, what a great idea! Sure glad I met people who explained the idea of being prepared, or I would be in a real mess now. I wonder what the stores are like about now. NO local news right now, except for little ticker lines about this and that closing, and rumor numbers to call.

Hungarian and I will be going to the store around 4-5 this afternoon so will report on that. You can never have too mmuch catfood.

-- Anonymous, September 11, 2001

I stopped off at the grocery store on the way home (before filling my tank). Felt a little guilty about it. After all, I was buying milk. But then again, I didn't raid the shelves of batteries. I don't know what that supermarket should be like midday midweek, but the parking lot was as full as I have seen it.

Barefoot, the folks you figured hadn't reached work yet. I'll bet the trip back home was a nightmare, but at least they were alive to do it.
