Did Nostradamus predict this?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

We've been discussing this quote on other bulletin boards that I am a member of and I thought that I'd open a dialogue here.

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb" , "The third big war will begin when the big city is burning" - Nostradamus 1654

What do you think?

Nostradamus is a plagiarist .. check his book and check the Bible prophecies. What about patterning events on readings like books of Nostradamus?

A friend sent this to me: According to Nostradamus, the first two anti-Christs were extremely evil, and history has shown this to be so; however, Nostradamus speaks of a third anti-Christ who is more hideous than all the others combined. Some say Sadaam Hussein, the dictator from Iraq, could be this evil tyrant. Others say that he has not yet appeared. What does Nostradamus say about this third anti-Christ? First, Nostradamus tells us he will come from the Middle East.

Out of the country of Greater Arabia Shall be born a strong master of Mohammed... He will enter Europe wearing a blue turban. He will be the terror of mankind. Never more horror.

Here, Nostradamus says that a man from Greater Arabia will lead his forces on an invasion through Europe. This invasion will start a third world war that will be far worse than all the other wars put together (Guentte). When will all this take place? In one quatrain Nostradamus gives us an exact date in which the war will be well under way.

In the year 1999 and seven months From the sky will come the great King of Terror. He will bring back to life the King of the Mongols; Before and after war reigns.

Nostradamus predicts the war will begin shortly before the year 1999 (Roberts 191). He also tells us how long the war will last.

The war will last seven and twenty years. (Guentte)

Nostradamus says that the war will be so terrible that the world will come face to face with final annihilation. Here, he implies that the war might involve some kind of horrible weapon, possibly nuclear. Nostradamus tells what the first target will be.

The sky will burn at forty-five degrees. Fire approaches the great new city.

In this phrase, Nostradamus refers to a great city in the new world of America near forty-five degrees latitude. Experts agree this could only be New York.

By fire he will destroy their city, A cold and cruel heart, Blood will pour, Mercy to none. (Guentte)

Although Nostradamus 's predictions for our future sound frightening he does give us some hope by telling us how this third world war will end. He says it will end as a result of an unexpected alliance.

When those of the Northern Pole are united, In the East will be great fear and dread... One day the two great leaders will be friends; Their great powers will be seen to grow. The New Land will be at the height of its power: To the man of blood the number is reported.

The new land was a common term used by Nostradamus to refer to what we now call America. The countries of the northern pole could be Russia and the United States. We have recently seen the breakdown of Communism in Russia and an increasing friendship between Russia and the U.S. (Reader's Digest 515).

Was Nostradamus a fraud or a prophet? There are some who say that the seeming accuracy of his quatrains are a result of their facile interpretations (Guentte). Still, more than four hundred books and essays about his prophecies have been published since his death in 1566, along with a great number of articles and other commentaries, in numerous languages (Randi 5). Even skeptics pay careful attention to Nostradamus' predictions of the three anti- Christs. If Nostradamus truly predicted Napoleon and Hitler we should take heed of his words about the future. Perhaps we can prevent the dismal fate Nostradamus has predicted (Guentte).

The Nostradamus predictions that are circulating the web are a HOAX. This was started this week in light of the horrific events that have happened. You may go to this web page to read about this hoax. www.hoaxbusters.ciac.org once there do a search for "Nostradamus" During these difficult times let us as Christians look to God for comfort and our Bible for hope.

Since I actually read my Bible and use the Commentaries of persons who have a thorough knowledge of Hebrew, Greek, and Latin, I don't find the need to depend on propaganda or any other source to tell me what it says.

The word Antichrist ONLY appears FOUR times in the ENTIRE Bible and each of these is in the First Epistle of John. In it John says the Spirit of antichrists (not any ONE person) were ALREADY present when he wrote the letter two thousand years ago. He further states that they went out from those who follow Christ. Thus, the implication is they are persons well versed on how Christians think and if possible would even deceive the ELECT. Because of their presence at the time John wrote the letter(2000 years ago), he warns the end had already begun. The other Epistles bear this out.

The Revelation prophesy (also recorded by John) never mentions the Antichrist. It does mention the Beast, describing the FINAL defeat of Satan.

Finally, there is NO mention of Pre-Tribulation Rapture. As an Epistle of Paul states, it will occur "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the LAST TRUMPET." (I Corinthians 15:52). Scientists tell us the twinkling of an eye occurs in on fifty-four hundreds of a second. You won't have time to say, "Whee I'm gone"!

Christians must read and rely on the word of God. Since John's Epistle say the end began in his own time, might it be possible that the destruction of the BEAST is so near that Satan is diverting our attention elsewhere, so if it were possible even the very elect might be deceived? Only God knows for sure. Therefore, "Be Ye Also Ready. "

Once you get by the words "City of God", you know this prophecy, even if it were written by Nostrsdamus, could not be referring to New York. 'nuff said.

We are a people that seek answers from whatever sources are available when we do not understand. I was in Barnes & Nobles and it is as though a shrine has been established for Nostradamus. Maybe I am somewhat cynical, but does this directly affect us as a people. I know that everything affects everyone - but we have always been overcomers. We don't have much to loose, and again we have everything to loose - our sons, brothers, husbands, or friends if we were to actually go to war to fight for a country that declares war against us every day. Sure, gas prices were going up anyway! Sure the interest rate dropped but that is only fallacy. Be not deceived! I sympathize with the tragic lost of life, but retribution is a bitter pill to swallow. Innocent people die every day from some sort of violence or another in this country, with most going unsolved. America is guilty of the same crime in other countries. You know it is much different when the fight is in front of your house and threatens your peace! My opinion - Jesus and the Prophets of old predicted these events long before Nostradamus. Instead of buying the Prophies of Nostradamus buy a Bible! It has the predictions but it also have the solutions! Vengeance is my says the Lord! If my people who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
