Thanks to everyone who answered my Donald Paterson question. Does anyone know who was George A. Kelly's thesis advisor at the State University of Iowa? He received his Ph.D. in 1931.

Carl Seashore. However this did not actually reflect an "intellectual lineage". Kelly was a grad student in either physics or engineering (I can't remember which). He switched to Psychology, with Seashore as his advisor, and got his degree nine months later.

His undergrad. degree was in physics and mathematics. Before becoming a psychologist, he was an aeronautical engineer.

Check out Rychlak's _Introduction to Personality and Psychotherapy_ for a brief biography of Kelly. According to it, Kelly worked with Lee Travis on speech and reading disabilities at the State University of Iowa. However, the statement that he did not come to psychology directly is correct. After earning his B.A. degree in physics and mathematics at Parke College, Kelly went to the University of Edinburgh where he received another bachelor's degree in education (he was working with Sir Godfrey Thomson on statistics and education there). While there, he developed interests in psychology.
