Susan, I think everyone is still reeling from the shock and horror of recent events. My heart goes out to those people who have lost loved ones and friends, to the valiant rescue workers, to the brave and determined folk of New York, and to Americans everywhere who must be feeling their very foundations have been shaken. There are many bereaved families here too, and many more anxiously awaiting news. I personally have a heavy heart and feel I have witnessed a pivotal event in modern history. At the moment I don`t feel certain which way the pendulum will swing - I hope for the good of mankind.

All rightminded citizens of the World will have recoiled in disgust and united in condemnation of these evil acts. But there will be some who will seek to capitalise on the uncertainty and unrest - I hope reason and carefully considered responses prevail.

How are things with you Susan? It must be just awful over there.

We are OK here. I'm a good ways from New York or Washington DC. New York is about 900 miles (about 14000 kilometers) from here and Wash DC is about 600 miles from here. My husband awoke before me Tues morning and I had just barely woken up when the second plane hit the World Trade Center. I was laying in bed not looking at the TV which David had already turned on. I hear all this mess about planes hitting and blowing up and such and I just think that Davids put in one of his stupid movies like Die Hard or something. Then he sees I'm awake and tells me what happened. Scary indeed. Although we are good bits away, it had an impact here and I'm sure everywhere else in teh states. World Trade Center and govermental agencies in Wash DC employ LOTS and LOTS of people. Just about everyone had someone to worry about. Davids cousin had just started a job at the World Trade Center with an architectural firm. We had forgotten that until his mom called. Fortunately he was across the street at the time and uninjured although he saw it all as it happened. Although in all the chaos, he didnt get to call in safe until that late afternoon. Plus remember, all we saw and knew was that two planes went into the trade center, then the pentagon, then off in Pennsylvania. We didnt know the flight numbers or their orginations. Many many many people had friends and family that were flying that morning. It wasnt until hours later we learned the flight numbers/orginations. I just hope we stop these people before more happens. We learned today that Atlanta was a potential target for them and still may be. This hits home for me as it IS HOME. We are all still hurt and angry, but atleast for now my close ones and I are safe and sound.

What can be said that hasn't been said hundreds of times already this week? Man's inhumanity to Man had to be seen to be believed.

It seems to me however intelligent man has become over the centuries one thing has never been mastered and that is how to live at peace with each other on this planet.

When people claim that someone has acted like animals, I think "I wish" animals never behave to each other the way we do.

Please God those who will make decisions about the next steps to take will do the right things to make the World a safer place for everyone.
