Spur on Heel of Footgreenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread |
Can I please have suggestions as to what measures I should take when massaging someone with a spur on the heel of their foot? Are there strokes I should/should not use? What is the best way to treat such an ailment. Fiona

Q 1 I assume you are asking about an inferior anterior spur formation and not an Achilles tendon exostosis? If so remember it is a transitional tissue pressure zone exostosis calcification - the cause lies in the plantar fascia where postural deformation is causing the excess tension and the local reaction - Rule 1 release the plantar fascial tension - Rule 2 avoid direct pressure on the zone of pain - Rule 3 - if short term action not immediately responsive recruit a good podiatrist for referral - kind regards - Joel Morrell
