Anullment possible?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Here is a little background first. I am Catholic and my wife is Methodist. We were married in the Methodist church, but we went through the process of getting the marriage approved by the Catholic church. She had said prior to the wedding that she was planning on converting, but that never really got started.

I am only 25 and have been married for 15 months now. For the past 3, my wife has said she is unhappy, but can't figure out what is making her unhappy. I have tried spending more time with her, but nothing I do seems to make any difference. I want to try anything to make the marriage work, but she just doesn't seem motivated to do so. I believe that right now she is just afraid to tell me that she wants out. I have recommended counseling, but she does not want to go.

Anyway, I guess my question is, if this ends in divorce, will I be able to get an anullment? I did not enter into this marriage lightly and I am willing to try to work at it, but I can't do it alone. Thanks for any help.

Hello, Kevin.
I'm sorry to read of the difficulties that you have encountered.

Based on what you have told us, it is impossible to say whether or not your diocesan marriage tribunal would come to a decision to issue a Decree of Nullity.
My gut feeling is that you are premature in thinking about it. You are still together, you love your wife, and maybe it is time for you to "fight" still harder to save your marriage.

If you really feel that you need to know more about "nullity," please consult the forum's archive of older threads on that specific topic.

God bless you.
John
