JZ: I think I saw somewhere that you just bought 5 acres? Can't speak for anyone else but I'd sure like to here about it. Do you plan to build or does it have what you need already? Do you have a family and are you on it yet? Ignore this thread if I'm being to nosey!!...Kirk

Yup...it's...almost true. If the appraisal comes back Tomorrow from the bank as were hoping, our present home is little more than a memory and it's 'back to the country' ! It's been a hectic time here (and we're supposed to be getting older and slowing down). We live in a village of a few hundred people so it's not exactly city but the barking dogs were driving us nuts. I casually mentioned one day we should sell so I put an ad on a local internet board and two hours later we got a call. They came over had a look and 5 days later they bought it. It must have meant to be, this being a rather depressed area. Speaking of depressed, my sweetie and partner of 8 years promply freaked out and conveyed that she was not ready to move. AGAIN. I must admit I can't blame her. We have moved 9 times in the last 8 years, the last one being roughly 3000 miles. She did give in but only after I agreed to stay at our nest homestead for a minimum of 5 years.(We even shook on it). Our move in 2 weeks will take us to White Salmon Wa where we will live for 2 months until our country place is put together. We are having a perk test done this Thursday, actually purchasing the land next Thursday, building a 10 x 20 storage building (future goat-chicken condominium) the following week. The well should be drilled by the second week in Oct. Excavating (we bought the side of hill) the week after that. We agonized over what to live in and considered a used single wide for between 7 and 15 thousand. A new single wide for about 32 thousand or a new double wide manufactured home. Well there goes our debt free existence, we decided on a new double wide but at $26 dollars a square foot for a quite nice home, quality wise, it seems like the thing to do. Besides Elaine deserves it. I recall a temporary rental we had to move into in tennessee where we had to vacuum up about an inch of flies from the floor and clean human (I think) excrement from the walls. Yup, she deserves it. Great news today was that the latest loan rates are down to 6.125%. The new homestead is at about 1200 feet. Our view is an incredible straight shot at Mount Adams.Across the road is a gorge that drops off several hundred feet which I figure will be our own private wildlife refuge. Last week we went up to the land and laid down in some (we thought) vacated deer beds and were promply informed by the previous tennants that we had misinterpreted the vacancy sign. Years ago in my hunting days I would have thought venison but now all I wanna do is sneak up on them and tickle em. We will get a bit of snow up there but that is just more of an excuse to get a wood stove hooked up. Well Kirk thats about it for now. Thanks for asking. You rescued me from packing yet more boxes of 'stuff', at least for now. Ring the bell you still can ring..forget your perfect offering..there's a crack in everything..thats how the light gets in..... jz
