News on an old boy

Watching ITV Sport last night Feyenoord's Champ Lge Game was on and JDTommy scored. The commentator added that this season he has scored 8 goals in six games. I almost peed myself laughing at the thought. Is the league easier or was he under the wrong man.

Just so you know he did try to miss the goal by shooting straight at the keeper but put the rebound in the back of the net.

He had a great season last year as well. Basicaly the league is a bit like the Scottish Premier league, but with 3 decent teams not two.

I always felt a bit sorry for JDT - he was obviously never a striker (much like Maric) but was stuck up front as part of KD's plans to dismantle our fine side. (Well come on, that MUST have been his plan - how else can you explain what he did??). Suspect if we'd ever given him a game behind a couple of decent strikers he might have done OK. Guess we'll never know, but the bugger seems to score EVERY time I see his mob on tv.

The English game didn't give him the space to play. I always thought his footballing brain was a yard ahead of our players at the time, he kept making good runs and no one could get the pass to him in time. In internationals and in a slower paced league he will be a Teddy Sheringham.

....... sounds like Christian Bassedas.

His current good form is partly down to having Van Hooijdonk in front of him, benefiting from the space he makes. He is an enigma though, he once got a full apology from a Danish paper who had repeatedly criticised his sometimes comical finishing, until one game when he was sublime. He has similar periods with Feyenoord.

In the Dutch competition he gets more space, more time on the ball, and more opportunites to use his 'footballing brain' (ie agree with Macbeth). English football just didn't suit him. Compare with Rob MacDonald, a light-weight with us, a decent forward with PSV. Rik is right that the Dutch competition compares with Scotland; only 3 instead of 2 teams dominating. The Dutch competition is however technically and tactically stronger, but a lot less physical and frenetic. The players who can ally their skills to the blood + thunder aspect of the English game usually succeed (which is why there are more Dutch than Scottish players at the top imo).

One thing to be valued about JDT is, despite his unhappy period with us, he has only ever said positive words about the club, the fans and the city in the Dutch media.

Was that 'goodbye'? :-) Pleased to hear he's made a successful career for himself elsewhere...but he was hopeless for us

Any Dutch teams need a CB??

Nice try Screach (wouldn't buy a 2nd hand car of you mind). Problem is only PSV/Ajax/Feyenoord could match his wages. Sparta could do with a couple of CBs as they don't even have one remotely fit + are leaking goals like a sieve. Even Marcy would be welcome, or even better the Caldwells. First-team experience, competitive football, a chance to develop, an opportunity begging, or at least I'm begging.
