No wonder hunters get a bad rap with "sportsmen" like this.

Geesh, yesterday I got to share in the graphic details of a dog mounting a child and today it is name calling! What a great way to drink my morning tea!

paul, if you are such a great nature lover why don't you just try looking around. If not, buy a postcard.

Paul, I've never heard of using peanut butter, but making a deer feeder is real easy and they attract more than just deer if you want to take lots of pictures. Never mind about Numb nuts, he mostly comes on this site to create problems.

Never heard of that but I will give it a try. We use a salt block to bring the deer in closer to watch, and take pictures. They come early in the morning, and at dusk. Since you are not hunting that would be fine. If you were though it would be illegal to hunt within 100 yards of it.The same for peanut butter. It is called baiting. I have a pet deer I hand feed every morning and evening. I have raised it. He is about 80# now and very curiouse. I will put some on a tree today and see if he notices it. He loves lots of things as far as fruits and vegetables, but I never would have thought of peanut butter, but he may like it since he likes to eat his sweet feed. I guess I never thought of anything sweet other than that. He will be in any time now so I will find out. I will let you know what he thinks of it. All deer are different. Like horses. Some of my horses love pepermint candy, or sugar cubes, but some of the horses just wont eat anything sweet. Raising deer I have learned they are all different that way. Last year my deer liked apples. The deer I am raising this year deosnt care for apples. He would rather have a carrot, but he will only eat it if I slice it up. Deer are very curiouse, but canges to their natural environment sometimes scares them. Different smells, noises..... If they know there is something different there it could startle them off. If nothing else they will be uneasy and very allert. I will see what Bucky thinks of it, but keep in mind this is a tame deer. Not a wild deer. He trusts me.

baiting is legal in some states, like her in Mich, ,but they limit the amount, type, and when you can bait

jeez... please never let me take a walk in the woods and find used sanitary napkins hanging on the trees. Who in the world would do that?

-- Dave (something@somewhere.com), September 30, 2001.

Baiting deer is illegal here in Maine, also. But it's funny how some of the feed stores start offering deer "goodies" for sale at this time of the year :-)!!

Hey Dave, I once read in a hunting magazine where this hunter would hang tampons in trees making a row of them through the woods straight to his tree stand. He would squirt some kind of deer lure in each one for attracting. Well evidently several deer hunters must had read the same article, cause it seemed like everywhere you walked you would see these stupid things hanging in trees. It was really pathetic that year.

I tried the peanut butter on my deer. I put it on a tree by his feeder just ouside my door, and watched. He was very uneasy. Very allert, and jumpy. I went out and gave him his treat, and gave him a tase of peanut butter. He licked it off of my finger. He didnt care for it on the tree. The dogs liked it though. It changed his natural environment. I didnt think that would work. In Indiana, any food source or salt is considered baiting. There are enough deer that there is no reason to bait anyway. If you want to take some good pictures sit in a ground blind or tree stand like a hunter would. Early in the morning, and around dusk. You will get some great pictures. Just make sure you have a quiet camera.

I feed 20-25 deer early morning and late evening. I make a clicking sound ( sort of like "tsk tsk") They are used to it and come running when they hear it-they know I am about to put out some corn for them. In fact when I get to the lake and I see them near the road even 1/2 mile from my house, I roll down the window, make the noise, and they come running down the road chasing the car and follow me all the way home for their "dinner". Also shaking the corn in a coffee can is a noise they love to hear. In the late evening, they come to the sound of my garage door going up ( They know the corn is stored in the garage). I have lots of great deer pictures. Two months ago they started bringing the fawns with them instead of hiding them in the bushes while they ate. It's pretty easy to get them trained to whatever noise you want to use to attract them. Carole

WELL I DON.T KNOW ABOUT OETNUT BUTTER BUT I DO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT PUMPKINS DO DEER LIKE PUMPKINS?

-- chris Holloway (phoneman2@msn.com), November 09, 2001.

it works in alabama i put a rope around the jar from a tree with some corn stuck in with peanut butter

-- jimmy (murder_it@hotmail.com), November 13, 2001.

I dont know about peanut butter, but I will tell you one thing. If you get some apples and crush them up in a blender with some egg corns it is alsome. I did it one day just experimenting and a deer walked right up to it and started licking it.
