ARTISTS USING ADVERTISING SPACES

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Public Art : One Thread

iM CURRENTLY WRITING MY DISSERTATION ON ARTISTS WHO USE ADVERTISING SPACES TO DISPLAY THEIR WORK. These may take the form of billboards, bus shelters, lightboxes, billposters, stencils, any way that advertising is slipped into our unconcious. Ive found a few books that are in the same frame of mind, but many who call themselves public art, refer to re-generation of an area as opposed to commenting within one. I wondered if anyone else shares these views and knows of anywhere i could get hold of any good reference material.

Felix Gonzalez - Torress has done some stuff with bilboards, i don't know how much you found out already but there was an exhibition in New York called 'art on the road' or something, for the MOMA.
