Dead trees, open fires and some [ preachin!]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Those two trees died last year and were still standing just waiting to fall on me or ole Calvin. Ole Jeep was over week last and had his chainsaw. The biggest one was about 30 ft tall and about 8" at the stump. I hooked a log chain on'm yesterday and the Troy Bilt mower on the other end. We went across the yard with that big dude followin along like a little pup dog. After unhookin it -went back for tother'n. I have'm stacked alongside my "burn'n place" in the old driveway. Our little granddaughter will be down next weekend and we'll have a big fire for her. Roastin marshmellows, weiners and whatever else we can find to cook. If I llived in the city this would not be allowed! No open fires! Well---I don't live in their fine city, don't ever plan on it---EVER!

The smell of woodsmoke rising slowly towards heaven is almost --heaven for this old hillbilly! I suppose Almighty God likes to smell it too. Of course I'll invite Him to come set with us as we cook on that open fire and enjoy each other's company. I'll betcha He will enjoy it too!

I was kinda think'n whilst pullin those trees up in the driveway-about my salvation. I've been saved for just over 40 years. I was excited way back then and as each year goes by and I think about it---I get more excited--if that's possible. Even through my "stupid" times He still loved me enough to die for me. I can just almost shout--if fact I would but Lil Dumplin would probably think I'm crazy! He set my big feet [size 14 EE] on solid ground and I "ain't" sunk to my previous level since He saved me. He has blessed this family to such a degree that I can't even attempt to tell of all those blessings. I can also see His Mighty hand at work in protecting us. If I can see several just how many can't I not see-where He has spared our lives!

I could go on but won't. He's my BEST friend with Lil Dumplin next in line. I can't imagine living without Him! My job is to tell everyone about Him so they can have a chance to find out for themselves and what He will do for them. I'm not anymore special than anybody. I was/am just smart enough to believe Him and His Word. He hasn't EVER failed me! Jesus Christ is coming back for His church real soon. Will ya'll go with Lil Dumplin and this old hillbilly at the first Trump? I'd me most honored to meet ya'll in heaven! Old hoot, the redeemed, gibson. Matt.24:44

Hey, Hoot, maybe Jesus will have a big ole open fire for us to gather around, what do you reckon? That would be a pretty good reward for me-see you there.

Good to have you here, Hoot. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" Psalm 103:2.

Hoot -- I returned to the Countryside forum after a summer offline and found you gone. You could have cooked beans with the steam I let off when I found out what happened.

I just wanted you to know that I missed your stories. I'm glad you're still telling them over here -- I'll be a regular visitor here from now on.
