A quote from Elisabeth Elliot

"Where does your security lie? Is God your refuge, your hiding place, your stronghold, your shepherd, your counselor, your friend, your redeemer, your savior, your guide? If He is, you don't need to search any further for security." --Elisabeth Elliot

Cathy N.,

Thank you for posting that, Elisabeth Elliot is one of my favorite speakers. I use to listen to her on the radio when we lived in Maryland but here we have very poor reception and can't get her. Do you receive her newsletter?

For those not familiar with who Elisabeth Elliot is, it was her husband, along with several other missionaries, who was killed by the Auca indians in South America many years ago. Elisabeth's faithfulness, even traveling to and ministering to the Aucas, is most inspiring.

Elisabeth Elliot wrote to me when she was a missionary back with the Auca Indians after her husband was killed! I was an 11 year old girl when she wrote to me and I kept her letters until our house burned in 1983! In the early 1990's we owned a book store and a big radio station from Birmingham was doing a live remote from our store for our town's 100th birthday. The host had a phone interview set up with Elisabeth that day and I GOT TO TALK TO HER! I was so thrilled!!!! It was one of the highlights of my life!

Terry, Elisabeth retired from radio. I believe she still does speaking engagements, but her last broadcast I think was in July. Since moving to Canada I have not been receiving her newsletters, but my mother does and saves them for me.

I read a book once on Elizabeth Elliot speaking about how she guarded her heart and kept it for the one she would marry. I am a teenage girl, in the middle of adult hood and still "being a kid", but it really made me think on how i was treating guys. This was the only piece of literature i had read from Elizabeth Elliot, and probably the first time i was introduced to her, but God really put it upon my heart to treat males as brothers. Another book i have had the priviledge to read was " I kissed Dating Good bye" by Joshua Harris. Now it is not a book that slashes Dating, but gives godly points about dating and weither or not it should be something people get into. It really challenged me personally, and has helped me grow. I am in public school and daily i have first hand opportunity to see the foolishness of the flesh. Pray for youth around the world! And let us edify one another in our speach!

Jillian, you sound like a very nice young lady, I wish my daughter could have a friend like you! Contribute to any thread, I look forward to your youthful perspective.
