7.0 Earthquake near Guam

The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A major earthquake occurred about 45 miles (75 km) south southeast of Agana, Guam at 9:02 AM MDT today, Oct 12, 2001 (Oct 13 at 1:02 AM local time in Guam). A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 7.0 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake was felt strongly on Guam. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time.
