bumping this to new answers

sounds as tho they aren't being too specific, yet

just a "friend of a friend" report that TSHTF sometime in the next 24 hours

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

7 am edt. Nothing unusual on the scanners. No credible warnings in my email (just the same "friend of friend" tales posted all over). Nothing in voicemail. No scrawled notes left on my back door. I'm going to breakfast and to work this morning. Please email me (or send word through SAR or OG) if there is a "credible" threat to Central Ohio. My prediction: if anything happens, it's "behind the scenes."

BTW - Here is Stu's message in the event TB2K becomes jammed:

(Posted by Stu)

Just received a phone call from some one defiantly in the know. TSwillHTF in the next 24 hours! I don't have much more, and Im not at liberty to name my source. But this IS IT!

Stu later says that he can't name his source, but that "we" would recognize it and the source is 98% sure.

It just doesn't make any sense to me that it would be a weekend attack, unless it really were something specific to a weekend, like a sports game.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Just read Stu's thread (It's a Hi Pri/EAS Staff header). I can't imagine what would generate this level of concern except for numerous suitcase nukes going off. Sh!t. Now I have to decide how to reprioritize my morning for what I can always hope is a false alarm.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Check out Stu's thread - page 2. There's now a confirmation from the New York Time's. Article (with link) says that more credible evidence received that an attack vs. U.S. should happen within next 24 hours...

with messages like this, I think I would rather not know about them.

They do no good, just make people nervous.

I just sent my teenager to an all-day event to be followed by a movie this evening -- her first date. If you know anything about my kind of luck, you'd better crawl into your hidey holes!

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

sh!t

I'm stuck here at work. :(

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Helen,

Should I go out and buy a lucky rabbit's foot for you? ;-) I wonder if the have 270 millions' worth, for the rest of us too...

Apoc,

If there's any sign of trouble, I'm sure any of us would try to get a "heads-up" posted here for you, asap. Here's praying that those terrorists' plans never come to completion...

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Barefoot, it depends on the outcome. I'm certainly tired of the false alarms.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Brooks, I agree. If this turns out to be nothing - not that I want anything to happen - I am going to take everything after this with a huge grain of salt.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Beckie, if it means anything, I just got ordered out of downtown Cols by the local PD. I have no idea what's going on, yet: something's jamming my scanner. Bear in mind that it's a Saturday, and that's not typically a day that the offices are filled.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

BTW, it's 11:06 AM EDT. There's a home game today at OSU, and it looks like part of rt 315 (near the stadium) has been blocked off. I'm sure it'll be an interesting afternoon for the fans.

Meemur,

I just put up a thread at TB2K to find out what's going on. Was planning on going shopping in Worthington - guess I'd better put that on hold for a while, eh?

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

Meemer, I am sure glad you are safe...becki, I am like you, I am tired or the adreiline rushes, but like stu says, If I DON't "listen" and act while I have time, once SHTF it may be too late. I am a walking enchnea factory..fighting off a cold DAN was home sick with....CAN NOT afford to be sick right now!

Helen, will send prayers for your child's safety. Apoc....maybe at work is a good thing??? Git should be checking in soon.

Meemer, you, me and mutter, and Deb ought to exchange phone numbers so if one gets info in a rush, we can call the other Ohio people..I never joined the eas at TB cause I was not posting as much...maybe I will now.

God protect us all. my feeling is more explosion than germs...FWIW::::I have been out side and am going back out, and heard NO PLANES at all this morning so far...this is not NORMAL!

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

You'd probably be okay in Worthington. Just avoid High Street as much as you can. I wouldn't go any farther south, though.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

I really think that it was a bomb scare downtown. Another hoax. I'm not going to get upset over "what ifs" today. That's part of the terrorists' tactics. Back to cleaning. . . . I'll update you if I get any facts. I'm very tired of "friend of friend" rumors.

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

just to say along with stu...i have rec`d credible [take it to the bank] heads-up this morning by top level info...that there is indeed a very serious threat of something major coming down in next 24 hrs or so!

wish i could give specifics but i have no other info on it at this time either. if/when i do get something more i will post it.....suffice ti to say that they were warning to keep family near home today and be ready to either shelter in place or leave at a moments notice if needed.

not wanting to panic anyone....[this could become daily living over the coming weeks and months] but do want to keep you as alerted as possible.

SARO, doesn`t matter if you post there....go sign up for EAS alert. k?

take care all and stay safe.

God`s speed.

So far, I'm no more concerned than I was when I heard the FBI's warning. All info since then, official or no, has only served to confirm that warning.

I keep cogtitating on the fact that the terrorists know we can pluck their conversations from the air and can snoop on their e-mails. It could well be that they are NOT planning anything and are just kicking the anthill with fake conversations. Of course, we don't know what the hell is going on, whether it's legit or not, so we're terrorized. For many years, those in Northern Ireland, mainland UK, Spain and Israel, among others, have lived with such terror for decades. We must learn to do the same, I'm afraid.

During a two-year period, the provincial mall where my father had his small retirement business was closed down over a hundred times because of IRA bomb scares. The occasional bomb would go off in another town or a mortar would be lobbed at 10 Downing Street or a hotel full of government officials (including Thatcher) would be blown up, so the threat was credible. It's why my father is living on social security and doesn't have anything other than a VERY small annuity--terrorism ruined his business and many others.

The IRA was fond of placing bombs in street trash cans during the Christmas shopping period, which is why you won't find public trash cans in Britain any more. (This leads to litter-strewn streets, unfortunately.) Naturally, merchants suffered greatly because people stopped shopping in the traditional shopping areas, like London's Oxford Street.

It's a wretched way to live, but we shall have to get used to it.

Mutter, have you heard about any of the excitement downtown this morning?

-- Anonymous, October 13, 2001

>We must learn to do the same, I'm afraid.

Agreed, OG! Now if I can just tear myself away from the computer. The email from various quarters is flowing in. Lots more FOF reports. Ahhhhhhh!

Don't know how to sign up for EAS, went to every EAS thread but didn't see any sign up link.

Go here

Look for the red EAS Registration Link in red, about half-way down in the first post.

Thank you, dear lady. A declawed Siamese would be most welcome as a back warmer.

I just got home (11:15 central) after being stuck at work since before 9am. I haven't had a chance to check the web, as I was doing stuff in the main data center, and I don't have web access from there, but thanks for offering to give me a heads up if something were to have blown.

I'll be back there tomorrow bright and early. :(
