I've learned-
that you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.

I've learned-
that it's taking me a long time to
become the person I want to be.

I've learned-
that you should always leave loved ones with loving
words. It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned-
that you can keep going long after you can't.

I've learned-
that we are responsible for what we do,
no matter how we feel.

I've learned-
that either you control your attitude
or it controls you.

I've learned-
that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship
is at first, the passion fades and there had
better be something else to take its place.

I've learned-
that heroes are the people who do
what has to be done when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences.

I've learned-
that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned-
that my best friend and I can do anything
or nothing and have the best time.

I've learned-
that sometimes the people you expect to kick you
when you're down will be the ones
to help you get back up.

I've learned-
that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be
angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned-
that true friendship continues to grow, even over
the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I've learned-
that just because someone doesn't love you the
way you want them to doesn't mean they
don't love you with all they have.

I've learned-
that maturity has more to do with what types of
experiences you've had and what you've learned
from them and less to do with
how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned-
that your family won't always be there for you. It may
seem funny, but people you aren't related to can take
care of you and love you and teach you to
trust people again. Families aren't biological.

I've learned-
that no matter how good a friend is, they're going
to hurt you every once in a while and you must
forgive them for that.

I've learned-
that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others,
Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I've learned-
that our background and circumstances may have
influenced who we are, but we are responsible
for who we become.

I've learned-
that just because two people argue, it doesn't
mean they don't love each other. And just
because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned-
that we don't have to change friends
if we understand that friends change.

I've learned-
that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret,
It could change your life forever.

I've learned-
that two people can look at the exact same thing
and see something totally different.

I've learned-
that your life can be changed in a matter of minutes,
by people who don't even know you.

I've learned-
that even when you think you have no more to give,
when a friend cries out to you,
you will find the strength to help.

I've learned-
that credentials on the wall do not
make you a decent human being.

I've learned-
that the people you care about most
in life are taken from you too soon.

1. At least 5 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. If not for you, someone may not be living.
8. You are special and unique.
9. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.
12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it.
13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.
14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know.
15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight,

The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

The simile -- throwing the first waffle away -- is a little clever, because children can be frustrating (more interrelated with parental response actually) but becomes tragic because children are also precious AND especially hapless to fate because of their age and innocence.

Now, on the other hand,

Mistakes should be like waffles ..

or downs and strikes ...

Consider the obscenity of such concepts as: (You finish the sentences)

Soldiers should be like waffles ... you should be able to thow the first one away ...

Cripples should be like waffles ...

etc., etc.

Sunrise doesn't last all morning

A cloudburst doesn't last all day

Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning

It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass

All things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening

A mind can blow those clouds away

After all this, my love is up and must be leaving

It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass

All things must pass away

All things must pass

None of life's strings can last

So, I must be on my way

And face another day

Now the darkness only stays the night-time

In the morning it will fade away

Daylight is good at arriving at the right time

It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass

All things must pass away

All things must pass

All things must pass away

JBT, does that mean I don't get the $200? Darn! ;)

Oxy, I understand what you're saying. I don't know who Mary Alice Messenger is, but I'm sure she was only kidding. It's the stuff television sitcoms (Roseanne, Married with Children, etc.) used for laughs. They were successful, and many new programs were born. People enjoy humor. They want to laugh and forget their problems for awhile.

Are there sick people out there who do horrible things? Of course, but they were unstable to start with. It's like the old debate about kids and the influence of lyrics in a song. A normal, healthy kid isn't going to listen to a song and go kill someone.

Different people have different 'tastes' in humor. The same is true for everything else. I personally think the quote is funny.

"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less. We buy more, but enjoy less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted our souls. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there.

Give time to love, give time to speak and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

To all my friends in my life, thanks for being there. I appreciate you."

Some days you're the fan dancer. Some days you're the fan.

Some days you're the windshield. Some days you're the bug.

Some days you're the statue. Some days you're the pigeon.

No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which one is true.

I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness or ablities that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence.

What I have learned as I mature is that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in.

I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just assholes. I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.

I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better have a big weenie or huge boobs. I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think. I've learned that you can keep puking long after you think you're finished. I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities.

I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades, and there had better be a lot of money to take its place.

I've learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get arrested and end up in the local paper.

I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away.

I've learned to say "F___'em if they can't take a joke" in 6 languages.
