How do you become a herbalist?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I've been interested in learning more about herbs for years, but it just seems so overwhelming and I don't know where to start for my best information. We have tons of wild plants growing here year round in Tx and I was wondering if someone could direct me to a school, correspondance preferred close to my area, in N.E.Tx, or Ark, Ok, La, you know so they will know the plants in my area! Thanks

Carol, this is Terry from Sullivan, Mo.The Herb Companion is a publication that can direct you not only to national but local happenings in herbs. The number is 1-800-456-5835. This publication is your best information that I know of.

Hello Carol, A good (and free) place to start is at www.barnesandnoble.com . They have a free online course on medicinal herbs. This will get you a "basis understanding" of how to use tintures, teas, poultices, etc. Sincerely, Ernest

???????????? Barns & Noble have an online class????I would suggest any books by Susan S Weed, especially the green one. She goes with the weeds in your yard to start with.

There are a lot of herbal correspondence courses as well. Michael Tierra's site: http://www.planetherbs.com/ is one of my favorites, and I hope to take their course someday. Also, you can find a lot of great herb books (as well as seeds and plants) at Richters' Herbs www.richters.com. They are a joy to work with.Good luc
