16/10/2001 22:48 - (SA) Cairo airport beefs up security against anthrax

Cairo - Passengers, luggage and air freight coming from the United States will have to undergo tighter security measures at Cairo airport in an attempt to shield Egyptians from the spread of anthrax, an official said on Tuesday.

The new measures will be implemented to "protect the country from anthrax spores" and include medical check-ups for passengers who do not look healthy, an airport spokesperson said.

Four Americans have tested positive for anthrax spores in the past days, one of whom died October 5. - Sapa-DPA
