Fortune tellers, tarot cards, horoscopes etc. [Warning---Christian Material]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I felt led to post this tonight. Regarding those "card readers" who advertise on the "tube". This is not a harmless little "thing" and certainly not for ANY Christian to be meddling with. Almighty God does not like it when we consult with "soothsayers, the zodiac or fortune tellers"! A simple little "harmless" act can and many times does open the door for satan to creep into one's life. ANYTHING that's being honored besides Almighty God and His Son--Jesus Christ-is breaking the first of the Ten Commandmants! "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me"! old hoot gibson. Matt.24:44 I'm really burdened in my heart for folks and especially now. Many are being deceived by the tricks of satan. Friends of ours are usually the way satan gets to us. They inadverantly fall into his clutches and before they know it it's too late. They are never too far into it to be delivered but they first have to recognize it and ask for deliverance.

Watching those haunted house shows on tv is also another way to open the door for demons to enter. Wishing you had the "power" to cast spells on others for monentary gain, revenge or just for fun. Very dangerous ground to be treading upon. Trances, channeling, talking to the dead, tarot cards, reading tea [or coffe grounds] leaves in the bottom of your cup, horoscopes are all delving into the "toys" of satan. If ya'll have done any of these things ask Almighty God to forgive you and take that desire from you. Only He is worthy!

He had been dealing with me for about a week to post this. I have in obedience to Him and hope that it will help somebody.

Jesus is the Only way to the Father! "This is MY beloved Son in Who I am well pleased"! Old hoot. Matt.24:44

Thanks for posting this, Hoot. Timely food for thought. To many folks get into this out of curiosity or just for the fun of it, and find themselves caught in a nightmarish trap they can't get free of. This isn't fun and games; it's serious business.

This really is a good topic and something so important to be serious about , yet so many people don't understand that seriousness and that holloween really is of the devil. What are some good ways to explain to children and to other teens about what Holloween is about? I have tried in some aspects to explain what the bible says about witch craft ,and demon worshippers, yet, to them its harmless fun. I think the hardest point for people to except is just that we're not to be part of the world and not celebrate in a time of the flesh.

Amen, Brother Hoot! Our sufficiency is in Him! We need no other spirit but His Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us.

The book of Ezekiel is all about what happens when we start playing with the occult. God says "Have nothing to do with it" and that is good enough for me.

My kids want nothing to do with halloween, it is just too creepy for them. When we've lived where we would get trick or treaters, I would set my kids up doing a fun craft or activity of their choice while Spouse and I answered the door and handed out candy and Jack Chick comics and Bible tracts. I must say, the kids were always more excited about receiving The Word then candy.

And isn't Gods word, candy for the heart?! I'm so glad that your children don't desire to participate in holloween. I always liked going out and dressing up when i was a kid (before my parents stopped taking us), because of the fun, Now i'm just hoping that my sisters and brothers don't find the same desire. Peer pressure from little kids can be the worst ever!

Hoot, ol'd friend, I am so glad you brought this up! I am a Chistian also, who studies the Bible. Let me add that I have a old friend who lives far away from me who is a psychic. We've emailed back and forth about the subject of Tarot reading and Christianity, as I know what is said in the Bible. I asked her straight out if she was a Christian. Her reply was yes and everytime someone asks for her help through her cards, she prays to God that she can help that person. She feels that God gave her this gift and guides her. Let me add that I have a gift in that I dream of future events that happen. I think that it is a gift from God also. (I wish I'd dream the correct lottery numbers though). I have given this much thought and I really can't come up with any answers. I hope I haven't offended anyone. God bless.

Ardie, God never, ever goes against his own word. If he says something is sin, he will not gift a person in that area. The Bible also says that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, making wickedness appear to be very right. And anybody can pray to God, it does not necessarily mean that they are Christian. The Lord said, "Many shall come to me and say, Lord did we not..." and list a whole bunch of good things done in the name of Christ, and He shall say, "Depart from me, I never knew you." Please think seriously about this.

Good response,Cathy! Thanks! I will explain that my dreams are usually a warning of something difficult that will happen in my life, like my father's death. Unfortunately, it is never good news. Perhaps our Lord is giving me a little help in that way, I don't know. I really wish I didn't have them! My friend, the psychic, told me that I should develop my gift, but I really don't want to go in that direction.

I agree with Hoot. As far as dreams etc. I think it is not Psysic but I think some people are just more aware of what is happening around them. If you look and pay attention to people and their actions you can seem to predict their action kind of like the spouse that can finish a thought for the other one. Not psysic just familiar.

-- Rose (Sweetrozie2@hotmail.com), December 10, 2001.

Rose, when ever you have the urge to read those horrorscopes, just come on in to the forum and get encouragement and fellowship and prayer if you need it.

Some bad habits, especially occultic ones are very hard to break. We are here for you.

-- Laura (LadybugWrangler@hotmail.com), December 12, 2001.

I would think that there is a difference between reading horoscopes and believing them! To actually believe that the date I was born will make a impact on my life seems pathetic to me IMHO. With God's help,I decide what my day will be like. God bless!

Yeah, just like the books and movies about that warlock named "Harry Potter!"

You have all just blessed me so much......(with tears in eyes)

Thank You,

Hello everyone:

I stumbled upon this site and noticed a question I could answer. Someone asked "What should I tell my children about Holloween?"

The answer is that this is an ancient holiday to celebrate the lives of those who have left this world.

It is the new year for Pagans and I time to reap their spirtual and mundane harvest. To benefit from the seeds sewn in the spring.

It has nothing to do with satan, as pagans don't believe satan exists. It isn't scary or evil. It's just different from your beliefs.

Please don't e-mail me with Bible verses. I was raised Baptist, have formally studied the Bible and theology and I'm well versed in the Christian teachings.

If you would like to get real answers about Holloween from a practicing Witch in order to dispell your myths I would be happy to answer.

Bright Blessings

Debbi

Hey Deb! Good to see another Gibson on here. I ain't fix'n to email you with anything about ya'll bein wrong or any Bible Verses. I will tell ya'll that Almighty God has healed me of colon cancer, skin cancer, heart disease, diabetes and arthur. Jan 12, 02.

I was raised a Southern Baptist and now have changed to a "sooped up" Southern Baptist since my healing. I ain't much of a Bible Scholar but I do know Who healed me and it wasn't anything Pagan.

Where ya'll from? Kinda ironic--two Gibsons and each at each end of the spectrum. old hoot. Matt.24:44
