Easy red mite control in the worm bin (Vermiculture (Worms))

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

If you experience an increase in red mite numbers in your worm cast and bins, a piece of moistened bread heel , a few wet chunks of large dry dog food or a pinch of pizza dough will work nicely as a mite bait and save your worms and bin bedding. Just lay it on top of the infested bedding and casting and after a few hours , take the bait outside for disposal or srape the accumulated critters off and return it to the bin for another trapping. I have reused one bread heel three times to eradicate the majority of mites from one bin in 24 hours.
