Condit's Daughter Upset by Stories

NEW YORK (AP) - Rep. Gary Condit's daughter is upset that the story of missing intern Chandra Levy has become a story about her father.

``What hurts the most is when they call him a murderer. I mean, he doesn't even kill spiders,'' Cadee Condit told Mademoiselle magazine for its November issue. ``And then they demonized my mom. It was surreal.''

Gary Condit has admitted he had a close relationship with the 24-year-old intern, a constituent in his California district. She's been missing since April 30, and the 53-year-old married congressman has been under scrutiny ever since.

Cadee Condit, 26, quit her job as a special assistant to California Gov. Gray Davis after the governor denounced her father for not being more forthcoming about his relationship with Levy. She said she's received threatening phone calls and has had trouble sleeping.

``I've always been a spiritual person,'' Cadee Condit said, wearing a cross around her neck and carrying another in her pocket during the interview. ``I know that God has a plan for everyone. I just don't know what our plan is. I don't see it.''
