Electric Vesuviana

I have recently inherited an electric Vesuviana epresso machine. Does anybody on the list have some background information on the machine/manufacturer? I checked on Ebay and similar machines seem to be stovetop. Any ideas as to value.

In short, I don't have any good info but I offer the following suggestions (in case you hadn't already thought of these)

I have one of these too and have had very little luck so far in finding out anything about this item. The tack I am taking is to try to find out more about Vesuviana the company. Doesn't appear that they exist any more although they may have a new name.

I am at a disadvantage in that I don't have the box or any other manterials that may have come with the unit. Do you have any of that stuff? That might be helpful.

My other disadvantage is that I don't read Italian and therefore don't know if any of the websites I have seen are of value. I suspect that knowing Italian would be helpful in this research.

At this point, I am almost ready to tour around the Italins sections of a big city and do some good old fashioned PI work by walking into some of the historic coffee houses and getting hints from the owners, etc.

My Wife recently pick one up at a garage sale for $4 and we were looking for some background on this machine also. We cannot contribute an answer, only questions. If anyone does have any answers, please do help (origin, manufacture date etc...). Thanks.

Anyone have access/know where get parts - strainer basket in particular? I have access to about 6 of these, but all are missing the strainer.

The lady at the deli says they were sloing the stove-tops for about $100.00

In my possession is a letter from "Officine Meccaniche Gozzano Srl. Tiziana Pontone" dated October 22,1998, personally signed. I had written for information about new Vesuvianas. He informs in this letter that they were discontinued in 1985. The company is in Novara, Italy and I cannot imagine why such an indestructible, stylish, efficient product is no longer made or understood (OR CAN I???). If anyone wants more info, I have many details. . . Best, Susan Roper
