Can she apply for student loans and a Pell Grant?

Ronda- Consider this- have your daughter organize the merchants in her area to save all of their aluminum cans for her. (Does she have a car?). Then, every week or so she can go around and collect the aluminum and sell it to the recycling centers.(she should talk to people who install mini-blinds as well, for their old blinds, and any fabrication or machine shops who use aluminum). Maybe also the congregation of the chirch she attends at school. You would be amazed at how much money she can make once she gets people organized. I have found that people are generally more than willing to help do this.

Besides student loans and pell grant, can she get any scholarships (Sports,State,Academic,Church)? Did she file a Financial Aid Application? Have you guys talked to the college financial office for suggestions? Also whatever you pay for her and the other child in college, keep your receipts for tax purposes. You can get Education credits on your Federal Taxes thru either Hope or Lifetime Learning credits.

With two children in college, well unless you have professional wages coming in, you will be able to get financial aid. The father sick is actually a plus, and a hardship grant is also a possiblity (sorry that sounds sort of harsh) Go to the financial aid office at the college, and get the forms filed. It takes a while for it all to go through the first time, but once it is through, it goes much quicker. The great High School transcript that she put together should help her, something that every 9th grader should be doing now! What was her rank in High School, their are automatic grants at most Universities for top 10 (1500$ a year) and top 10%. There is a book at most large libraries about 4 inches thick with all the scholarships out there, including your Grandmother was a Jewish imigrant, 600$ a semester. All local electric companies, Pepsi, Coke, Wallmart and a million others have 500$ scholarships, and for my middle daughter who even after all this needed a few more dollars, apply for loans. Yes you have to pay them back but with a degree in hand the 40$ a month you have to start paying once out of school and out of defferring options, is easily obtained! Do not shy away from school loans because of your credit, it has nothing to do with it, your child is signing the promisory note for future income. You will run into major problems if this isn't a Federal or Acreditied Instution and honestly a school that doesn't meet at least Federal Student Loan guidlines is a waste of time. Vicki

Vicki said it all. The only thing I would add is that you go to the financial aid office with your child. Good Luck!!

Check with your pastor and also check with the organization for your particular denomination.

Sometimes churches will scholarship if the student agrees to come back and work for the church for a period of time.

Also, many denominations have scholarship funds available ask your pastor to check this out, also.
