about Sinar 2 point focus and the 8X20 format

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

Good morning. I am purchasing Sinar P standards and adapters to allow me to revamp my old Korona 8X20. As beautiful as the old thing is, it is not very rigid or precise. My question is this: Does anyone know how to 'translate' the lines on an 8X10 Sinar back that are used for focusing, to a different format. I would like to be able to use the focusing system on the 8X20. Thaks in advance for your ideas.

David,

You may need some technical advice from a Sinar service person to help with your problem.

The lines are at the centre of a circle of which the tilt adjust curve is an arc. Determine the radius of that circle and inscribe the lines at that point above the tilt track.

In shooting horizontals the function might not be practical for determining swing since the 20" aspect of the image frame would need to be offset an excessive amount contributing to considerable instability and the lens panel may not have sufficient adjustment to centre the lens.

Good luck ... WG
