Sharpton Traveling To Israel To Denounce Terrorism OCTOBER 21ST, 2001

Reverend Al Sharpton says he is planning to travel to Israel for five days to speak out against terrorism.

Sharpton announced his plans Saturday after attending a memorial service for a victim of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center.

"We're going midweek to Israel - a delegation to make a statement of outrage against terrorism all over the world," Sharpton said. "What we want to do is put a face on pain. So many of us are caught up on the policy questions and the world leaders that we forget that innocent people, whether they're in Brooklyn or Jerusalem, are losing their lives, and their families are being torn asunder. And it's time to reach out across customary lines."

Citing security reasons, Sharpton declined to give the exact day he is departing this week. The reverend said he expects to formally announce his plans at a news conference on Tuesday.
