WHAT MOOOOves you?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I am a sob machine and a good one. Sometimes women have to be hard , strong because their are a lot of responsibilities and things we have to look after, if our emotions get in the way, things don't stay together. Or at least, kids are looking at each other, asking who did it? And men, well you want a part. HEre you go. Lots of movies have made me cry, weep uncontrollably ( usually late at night) like Far and Away. I don't thing i have ever cried so much during a movie. But what has moved you to tears, made you a little weepy? This is not just for guys of course. But get involved.

Oh gosh, Jillian, I cry at the Hallmark commercials during the movies! I am very sentimental when it involves, children, families, animals, emotional things like songs I love, friends with troubles, just about anything brings a tear to my eyes. But I really consider myself a strong person. I have a knack for seeing all sides of an issue and feeling for all the people involved in a situation. There is a young girl I know who has some developmental problems due to a birth defect, and she sang a song at the school program once that brought me to tears!! It realy doesn't take much!!

Jillian~ I am not a guy, but I think this is a good example of a guys reaction to a woman crying. Those of you who have read Jan Karon's Mitford novels will understand me completely. I was on the book with Miss Sadie's death and I just lost it. I was sitting at the kitchen table reading and the boys had been in the living room playing. They heard me and RAN to see what was the matter. Of course, I was crying soooo hard I couldn't even talk! They brought me a box of kleenex, a glass of water and then just sat and held my hand. I was so touched by their thoughtfulness and was dying laughing inside and their complete helplessness with me crying. When I finally calmed down and explained what I was crying about, they couldn't believe me!

Church hymns make me cry; Steel Magnolias most definetly makes me blubber; Hearing the song "I'll be home for Christmas" ruins me; the poem, Little Boy Blue can have me in tears for hours and hours; hearing many voices singing God Bless America causes tears..I am a softie, easily moved by sentiment. I remember watching the memorial service for the Oklahoma City people and I was OK until I saw the little girl with the teddy bear....sigh..Did you know that medically, nobody knows why people cry? It's the same with tickeling..no explanation for either one of those events!

Not all guys are confused by our crying. My hubby is as much of a 'sobber' as I am! We can sit and watch a movie together, and both of us will be in tears. Now get this - he is a tough, strong guy - muscles galore, and just chubby enough to be good and cuddly - but when it comes to the sentimental stuff, he's a weeper! I love him so! :-)

As for what makes us cry? Anything sentimental. Steel Magnolias for sure. Yep, Far and Away, too. Good Will Hunting. Patch Adams. Both of us lost it at the movie theater when Mel Gibson's son died in The Patriot! We're just a couple of blubbering sobbers, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I cried when I asked Tom to lift the canner full of water onto the stove and Nathanael came and did it instead. I asked him how come he dared to grow up.

I cried when the Queen ordered the Star-Spangled Banner played for the changing of the guard Sept 11.

I cried when someone sent me an e-mail with a photo of rescue workers erecting the US flag at the WTC ruins.

I cried when our church told us that they had voted for Tom to be their pastor.

And Cheryl, my husband cries too. Especially when listening to music tapes.

I get misty eyed over patriot stuff and praise and worship songs, there's a few other things, but to actually "cry"-rarely.

I cry at parades when the bands and American flags go by. I always cry at the old Titanic movies and Madam X. I also cry when I get really angry or get my feelings hurt.

At my daughter's wedding, I said to my mother, "I think I'm going to cry." and she said (in a too cheerful voice) "Oh! Would you like me to slap you?" That struck me as so funny, I didn't think about crying but was trying not to laugh.

Wishing you enough.

I cried when Pricess Diana's coffin went by on the TV screen with a card on top that said "Mummy". I cry at most Christmas movies. I cannot sing "I was there to hear your borning cry" at church because then I think of my own babies and start to cry. This is just the tip of the iceberg of course. As for men crying, sometimes hubby is as bad as me at a movie.
