From the Des Moines Register:

FAIRFIELD IA Maharishi urges Bush ouster

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has called for the removal of President Bush, saying that his bellicose posture has opened the road to the gates of hell, followers said Saturday.

Speaking from the Netherlands, the founder of the Transcendental Meditation movement told followers that many unintelligent people believe in arms. He said Bush's ignorance of science has led him to rashly go out and destroy the world, according to a statement by followers

Of course the Maharishi is't allowed in this country for various and sundry reasons (not sure of all of the details). His followers will blindly believe and do anything he says and many are college educated and very intelligent otherwise.

many unintelligent people believe in arms He just believes in ripping people off. Many of his followers have gotten very rich fleecing people at his direction.

From the Maharishi University of Management site (Fairfield, Iowa):

Creating World Peace

Only Peace Can Create Peace

In these times of terrorism and counter-terrorist attacks, it is comforting to be reminded that by enlivening peace within ourselves, it is radiated in our environment. At Maharishi University of Management we are committed to this idea in a very tangible way.

Students, faculty and staff at our University practice the Transcendental Meditation program and the advanced meditation practice known as the TM-Sidhi program (which includes Yogic Flying) twice a day, together in a group. These techniques have been documented to not only produce clearer thinking, better health, and more harmonious interpersonal relations, but have actually been shown to affect the quality of life in the environment in the direction of greater peace, balance, and harmony. Over 40 studies have been conducted on this coherence-creating effect (called the Maharishi Effect), many published in leading scientific journals.

Here are some comments from scientists about this research:

“I think the claim can be plausibly made that the potential impact of this research exceeds that of any other social or psychological research program. It has survived a broader array of statistical tests than most research in the field of conflict resolution. This work and the theory that informs it deserve the most serious consideration by academics and policy makers alike.” — David Edwards, Ph.D., Professor of Government, University of Texas at Austin.

“My first reaction to work in this tradition was one of total disbelief. However, its proponents have shown themselves prepared to subject programs to empirical test, and the technique already has a sounder basis than many less exotic approaches. At the minimum, courtesy and humility demand interest and attention to its progress and testing. If favourable tests keep coming, we should not shrink from using them, or from seeking to understand them.” — Ken Pease, Ph.D., Professor of Criminology, University of Huddersfield, England.

“This is promising research. It is a non-traditional approach, but the methodology of these studies is sound and the statistical significance high. In a world as unstable and dangerous as ours, I believe that any approach with such consistent objective support deserves careful attention.” — Dr. Ved Nanda, Director of the Legal Studies Program, University of Denver; formerly President of the International Association of Law Professors.

The influence of peace radiating from these group meditations, particularly those including Yogic Flying, seems to increase exponentially according to the size of the group. Over 1,000 Yogic Flyers from around the U.S. and Canada joined in with the University’s group in the Golden Domes in the days immediately following the September 11 terrorist attack to help soften the situation. Our goal is to have a group of at least 1,800 Yogic Flyers at our campus in Fairfield, Iowa, and to ultimately create a permanent group of 40,000 Yogic Flyers in India. Research has indicated that these groups may be more than adequate to generate a powerful enough influence of peace and harmony to melt negativity and tension throughout the world.

Well, those 1000+ who meditated after 9-11 didn't soften the situation for me.

Good article, good insight.

What we have done in the past has never brought a lasting peace. Why not try something different???
