School scrap produces countersuit The Woodward-Granger district is suing a couple and their daughter, who is the alleged attacker. By APRIL GOODWIN Register Staff Writer 10/30/2001

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodward, Ia. - The Woodward-Granger school district is suing the parents of a high school student and their child, who allegedly assaulted another youth at school.

Legal disputes began last month when a Woodward-Granger parent sued the district, alleging that school officials could have prevented other students from attacking her daughter at school. Karen Donati is suing Superintendent Allen Green and the Woodward-Granger school district on behalf of her daughter, Tamara Nissen, for $10,000 plus legal expenses.

Now the district is suing Karen Kriz, David Kriz and their daughter, Casie, all of Woodward. According to documents filed in Dallas County District Court, Casie Kriz assaulted Nissen on Feb. 5.

Green and the district claim in court documents that Kriz is responsible for damages, as are Kriz's parents.

David Kriz rejected that assertion. He also said he told his daughter to hit Nissen.

"My daughter did it to shut her up, because I told her to break her nose," David Kriz said.

Donati's lawsuit alleges that on Feb. 2 some students in Nissen's fourth-hour class at Woodward- Granger High School harassed, intimidated and threatened to physically hurt her. Nissen, a 14-year-old freshman at the time, told her mother about the threats when she arrived home from school, the lawsuit says.

Donati called Green about the incident, and he assured Donati he would monitor the situation and alert staff.

When Nissen returned to classes the next Monday, she was afraid of what the students would do. She told her third-hour teacher, who told her to report to the fourth-hour class as normal, the lawsuit says.

Nissen went to the fourth-hour class, where she was harassed, intimidated and threatened by the same two students, in the presence of the teacher, the lawsuit says. One of the two students was Casie Kriz, the district said in court documents.

Nissen then asked the teacher for permission to leave the room because she was afraid of getting hurt. She was followed out of the classroom by one of the students to an adjoining hallway, where she was physically assaulted by Kriz, court documents say.

Donati is suing Green and the Woodward-Granger school district, contending they failed to provide a safe environment for Nissen.

As a result, the suit alleges, Nissen has incurred continuing medical and dental expenses, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.

While I do not like lawsuits, maybe if more schools were sued and the parents of the kids that cause problems, some parents might be more responsible. This parent sounds like he needs some legal attention, telling his daughter to beat someone up.

maybe they should mud-wrestle, ala King of Spain. LOL

I think that the suit will be short since the father admitted he told his daughter to hit the other one.
